The opening of a real session, word for word. It's one of the free ones.
H&C-3 You Are Caesar, Surrounded
Parent "Okay, you’re Julius Caesar. You’ve fought in Gaul for six years. For the first time, the tribes have united under one leader, Vercingetorix, and he already beat you once this year. Now you’ve both ended up at Alesia, and his 80,000 soldiers are dug in on top of a hill, inside a fortress. Why does the hill matter?"
Kid "I guess it’s harder to attack uphill?"
Parent "Why exactly?"
Kid "Because you’re exposed the whole way up, and gravity’s working against you, and they can see you coming."
Parent "Right, a real advantage, not just a symbol. Now, here’s another fact. Before you could seal them in, Vercingetorix sent riders out for reinforcements. Somewhere between 120,000 and 250,000 more soldiers are marching toward you right now. So: you can’t win by attacking uphill. A siege takes time you don’t have, because reinforcements are coming. If you retreat, you lose six years of work. What do you do?"
Kid "Hmm, I’m actually stuck, none of those seem like they’d work."

Read the whole sessionOne big idea, written out in full so you can explain it well.
Every session gives you the idea itself, a loose walkthrough, a worked example, and the places it tends to go sideways. Read it once, then sit down with your kid.
You do the explaining. Your kid guesses, draws, builds or acts it out at the moments that matter, so the idea sticks instead of drifting past.
Most sessions need no materials at all. If one does, it says so at the top. Open it on your phone, tablet or laptop and start.

I hate kids. Then I had my own, and it turns out I hate all kids except mine. Problem: I still hated playing kids games. No dolls and no pretend for me, thank you very much. So I started explaining physics, history, philosophy, economics and everything else on our kitchen window with chalk markers. Marker Sessions is exactly that: a way to connect with your kids by explaining the world to them.
I think so. Run one session a week and the yearly plan ($95.88) works out to about $1.84 a session. The monthly plan is $8.99. Seven sessions are free first, so you can run one with your kid before you pay anything.
Almost none. I wrote each session to give you the minimum you need to run it with your child: the idea explained to you first, in full, then a loose script. Most sessions need no materials, and if one does, I list it at the top.
I take it seriously. Your kid never makes an account. I ask a parent for a name, an email and a password, and I never sell your information or use it to train AI models. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
I'm Jeff, a parent. I started explaining physics, history and economics to my own kids on our kitchen window with chalk markers, then wrote the sessions down. Why I built this.
